If you repeat a lie often enough, people will come to believe it. At least, that’s what Third Reich Minister of Propaganda Joseph Goebbels said. Thus, for almost a year, every day Western radio, newspaper and television repeated that Donald Trump was a fascist. They convinced nearly everyone, but the media hadn’t taken into account that their accusation in fact made Trump seem more appealing. Women voted Trump, because they believed he was a strongman who could protect them. Christians voted Trump, because he would counter the decline of Christian families. Workers voted Trump, because erecting a megalomaniac wall would create new jobs. That’s what the media had told them, and they believed it. Aren’t the media supposed to bring them objective and trustworthy news? What a rude awakening it will be once Americans find out Trump isn’t a real fascist after all. Then, pent up popular fury will throw itself at radio commentators that lied to the people. With pitchforks and torches, angry citizens will march into newspaper offices, demanding redress. Crowds will gather demanding TV hosts’ heads, because if Americans had really wanted a fascist in the White House, they should have elected Hillary Clinton.
