Things that grow never become more equal, only less equal. Since the inception of the universe, stars did not come to resemble each other more over time, but less. From its birth, an organism’s organs don’t converge in form and function, but diverge. As people age, their individual resumes end up differing more from one another, not less. Since the beginning of history, human culture and identity did not become more of the same, but less of the same—at least not until recently, when globalized ‘modernity’ reversed this process of socio-cultural differentiation.
And that should worry us. What we call ‘freedom’ is really a physical property of the universe, namely that growth is the foundation for the freedom to diverge, i.e. to be and to become different. Conversely, the observation of increasing equality points to the opposite of growth, namely de-growth, or: death. Thus, freedom by definition opposes equality.
Any brand of politics bent on promoting equality, namely the death of differences, is a death cult. The socialism that promotes social equality today differs not from the national-socialism that once promoted racial purity: both hate the freedom to be different. The anti-fascists have become the new fascists.
(P.S. The clever joker may think the politics of diversity makes people more diverse, but it doesn’t. Firstly, this diversity is artifical. For example, in any attempt to make one galaxy more diverse by crashing it into another doesn’t make either more diverse, just mixed. Secondly, this diversity makes people less diverse: the multiculturalism that promotes diversity forces people to retreat into their narrow stereotypes, e.g. “black” and “white”.)
